A beginner's guide to Revision Skincare

What Revision Skincare is known for

Revision is a range I think of as polished and dependable, and three things stand out.

First, vitamin C. Revision uses THD ascorbate, a stable, oil-soluble form of vitamin C. Vitamin C Lotion comes in 15% and 30%, so you can start gently and step up, and C+ Correcting Complex 30% is the richer serum. Both help dull skin look brighter and more even.

Second, the D·E·J range. D·E·J refers to the area where the skin's layers meet, and these products are made to support it, to help skin look firmer, fuller and more radiant. There's a serum, a day cream, a night cream with 0.25% retinol and an eye cream.

Third, Intellishade TruPhysical SPF 45: a tinted moisturiser with 100% mineral SPF and a sheer tint that adjusts to even out the look of your complexion.

Who it suits

Revision suits people who want a few hard-working products and a polished finish. It's a good fit if your skin looks dull or uneven, or is starting to lose a little firmness. Nectifirm ADVANCED is made for the neck and chest, where skin often shows dryness and lines first.

There are gentle options too. Gentle Foaming Cleanser and DermProtect Barrier Defense are made for sensitive, reactive or very dry skin.

Where to start: four steps

Cleanse morning and evening with Papaya Enzyme Cleanser if your skin is normal to oily, or Gentle Foaming Cleanser if it's sensitive or dry.

Each morning, smooth one to two pumps of Vitamin C Lotion 15% over clean skin and let it absorb. Then D·E·J Face Cream, morning and evening, after any serums. Finish the morning with Intellishade TruPhysical SPF 45, applied generously 15 minutes before you go outside.

Once your skin is comfortable, you could add Retinol Complete 0.5% at night. Patch-test, start two or three nights a week and build up as your skin allows. Wear SPF daily, and don't use any retinol while you're pregnant, trying for a baby or breastfeeding. Don't pair it with D·E·J Night Face Cream, which already contains retinol.

Tanisha's tipVitamin C in the morning, retinol at night. It's an easy rule to remember, and it keeps most skin comfortable.

How it fits with other brands and clinic treatments

Revision works well alongside other ranges. Its vitamin C sits nicely under any moisturiser, and Intellishade can be your SPF whatever else you use. Just avoid doubling up: one vitamin C and one retinoid is plenty for most routines.

Around clinic treatments, follow your practitioner's advice on when to pause retinol and exfoliating products such as Brightening Facial Wash. Gentle Foaming Cleanser, HA HydraSerum+ and DermProtect Barrier Defense are comfortable steps for skin that feels a little delicate, if your practitioner agrees.

How Revision is sold here

Revision Skincare is sold only through authorised providers, so we offer it after a free 15-minute consultation by phone, video or in one of our clinics. One of my skin experts will help you choose your cleanser, vitamin C strength and moisturiser, and talk you through adding retinol when the time is right. Once your routine is set, you can order and reorder here.

Your questions

Which strength of Vitamin C Lotion should I start with?

15%. It's a gentle way in, and it suits sensitive skin too. If your skin is happy after a few months, you can step up to 30%.

Is Intellishade enough as my SPF?

It's a tinted moisturiser with mineral SPF 45, so for many people it's the last step of the morning. Apply it generously and reapply through the day if you're outdoors.

Do I need the whole D·E·J range?

No. D·E·J Face Cream is a lovely place to start. Add the serum, night cream or eye cream only if your skin needs them.
