Hypochlorous skincare explained: Clinisept+ and Clinisoothe+

What hypochlorous acid is

Hypochlorous acid sounds like something from a lab, but it's actually a substance your own body makes as part of its natural defences. In skincare it comes as a very dilute solution in water, so on your skin it feels like a cool mist of water.

What I like is how little it asks of your skin. Clinisept+ and Clinisoothe+ both have a skin-neutral pH, contain no alcohol or fragrance, and leave no residue, so your next step goes straight on. That makes them a comfortable choice for sensitive skin and for skin that has just had a treatment.

Clinisept+ Skin: for after treatments

Clinisept+ Skin Hypochlorous Cleansing Spray is the one I'd want you to have at home after an aesthetic treatment. It helps keep treated skin feeling clean, fresh and comfortable in the days that follow, and it can be used before treatments too.

Spray it directly onto clean skin, or onto a cotton pad and wipe gently, so the whole area is thoroughly wet. Let it dry naturally. Use it two to three times a day after a treatment, or as your practitioner advises.

Clinisoothe+ Skin Purifier: for every day

Clinisoothe+ is made in the UK by the team behind Clinisept+, for everyday use. After cleansing, mist it over your face and neck, or put a few drops from the dropper bottle onto your fingertips or a cotton pad. Leave it to dry with no rinsing, then carry on with your routine, morning and evening.

It's a lovely step for sensitive or blemish-prone skin that wants to feel clean and calm without anything harsh. One bottle covers your face, the eye area, lips and body. It's free from alcohol, fragrance, sulphates, preservatives and colourants, and it's vegan and cruelty-free. Choose the 100 ml spray or the 250 ml dropper bottle. Like Clinisept+, it can go straight into your basket.

Tanisha's tipIf your skin is going through a sensitive patch, keep things simple: a gentle cleanser, Clinisoothe+, a calming moisturiser and SPF. Fewer steps means less for your skin to react to.

How it fits with other brands and clinic treatments

A hypochlorous mist slots into almost any routine: cleanse, mist, let it dry, then serum, moisturiser and SPF. Because the formula is so simple, it doesn't add another active to the mix, so it sits happily alongside AlumierMD, ZO, AnteAGE or anything else. For sensitive skin, I like it between AlumierMD SensiCalm Cleanser and HydraCalm.

If you use Hydrinity, you'll already know Hyacyn Active Mist, Hydrinity's own hypochlorous mist and the first step in its kits. You don't need two, so choose the one that suits the rest of your routine.

After a clinic treatment, your practitioner's aftercare always comes first. Hypochlorous is there for comfort, not as a fix for skin problems. If your skin is sore, or the redness is spreading or getting worse, contact your clinic, or your GP if the clinic is closed.

Your questions

What's the difference between Clinisept+ and Clinisoothe+?

Clinisept+ Skin is for aftercare, used two to three times a day after a treatment or as your practitioner advises. Clinisoothe+ Skin Purifier is the everyday mist, used morning and evening after cleansing.

Do I need to rinse it off?

No. Let it dry naturally, then carry on with your routine. There's no residue, so your serum or moisturiser goes straight on.

Can I use Clinisoothe+ around my eyes?

Yes, it's made for the face, the eye area, lips and body. Close your eyes when you mist, or use the dropper bottle with a cotton pad for more control.
